About The Project
We are conducting a study called projectDRIVE+ that aims to improve teen driving safety. We are working with drivers aged 16 or 17 who have received a traffic violation and their parents. During the study, we will test a communication-based safe teen driving program with parents and teens in both rural and urban counties in Ohio. We will also test different types of program delivery (i.e., expert-delivered or peer-delivered training).
The study will incorporate an in-vehicle feedback system from Azūga.
- It is small and easily plugs into most cars under the steering wheel.
- This device, paired with a smartphone app, can detect if the driver is speeding, braking too hard, or accelerating too quickly.
- The Azūga system does not pose any risk to the driver, nor interfere with their driving
We will randomly assign participants to one of three groups.
- Some teens will receive real time feedback about their driving behaviors via the Azūga system as well as receive bi-weekly reports via the projectDRIVE+ website.
- Some parents will also be asked to participate in two one-on-one training sessions with an expert or peer interventionalist via video call.
- These training sessions will last approximately 30 minutes each and are designed to provide parents with tools to effectively communicate with their teen about safe driving topics.
Participation will last for six months.
Thank you for your help and participation!
